Youths With Disabilities (YWDs) in Bindura has moved a step further in realizing their abilities through inculcation of United Nations on Persons With Disabilities (UNCRPD).
Spotlight Online News Africa(SONA) last week Thursday toured self employment initiatives by Youths With Disabilities(YWDs) in Bindura.
Faith Mpofu Bindura YWD Urban Group said youth are engaging in self sustenance projects after realizing their roles in disability inclusion and advocacy.This came after Development Aid from People to People(DAPP) engaged them through capacity building initiatives.
“DAPP taught us about UNCRPD in realizing our role in disability inclusion. Today we are into self sustenance projects to ensure our independence from begging (Charity models).”
When Spotlight Online News Africa(SONA) news crew visited them at Tendai Community Center in Bindura saw production of dish washers, soaps, candles and toilet cleaners in progress.
“Most of us are now into the production of candles, toilet cleaners, soaps among other products so that we can support yourself for a living. This shows that disability does not mean inability,” she added.
Munyaradzi Mafunga Patron of Bindura YWD Urban Group implored the youth with disabilities for successfully in self employed projects.
“The YWDs in Bindura Urban are truly an example of disability champions, their projects will go a long way in addressing the plight of their needs,” he said.
DAPP Zimbabwe in partnership with Leonard Cheshire Disability and European Union is currently implementing a program on Disability mainstreaming to strengthn Youths With Disabilities (YWDs).
