BULAWAYO football giants Highlanders beat visiting Mutare City 1-0 to restore their fine premiership start in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter played at Barbourfields Stadium on Tuesday.

Bosso, who were smarting from Saturday’s defeat to log leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars, scored through Newman Sianchali after 79 minutes.

While Highlanders enjoyed victory, the mood was different with fellow premiership heavyweights Caps United who lost 0-1 at home to Chicken Inn in a match played at the National Sports Stadium.

Ever-green forward Obadiah Tarumbwa’s goal was the difference between the former champions and their tricky opponents.

At Nyamhunga Stadium, Ngezi failed to take advantage of their struggling opponents ZPC Kariba with whom they drew nil all.

With their fine form so far, Tonderai Ndiraya’s men were widely expected to steamroll over the power generators but failed to find the formula to beat top flight football’s weakest side.

At Mandava Stadium, a Never Tigere free-kick saw home side FC Platinum beat Black Rhinos 1-0 to keep their second spot on current premiership standings.

Following Tuesday’s round 9 of matches, Ngezi still top the log table on 23 points, FC Platinum are tied on 20 points with third placed Highlanders who have an inferior goal difference.

Caps United are position 6 with 15 points.

In other mid-week fixtures slated for Wednesday, troubled premiership giants Dynamos travel to Gweru to meet unpredictable Chapungu at Ascot Stadium while Harare City host Yadah,

Bulawayo Chiefs play Herentals while neighbours Bulawayo City also entertain Midlands side Nichrut FC.
