NATIONAL People’s Party (NPP) President Joice Mujuru and her followers were Thursday forced to flee hordes of suspected Zanu PF youths who threw stones at them during a visibility campaign by the ex-Vice President in Harare Glen Norah high density suburb.
Mujuru, who has not hidden her plans to contest for the country’s presidency, was out with her entourage on a meet-the-people tour.
NPP secretary general Gift Nyandoro confirmed that attacks but said the ex-Vice President was rescued from any harm by NPP youths who were accompanying her.
The attackers are said to have arrived on three kombis and were chanting unprintable words directed at the veteran politician.
Some party youths who tried to repel the attacks on the leader got injured during the skirmishes.
A police report was made at Glen Norah Police Station.
The attack is a test to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s continued vows to deliver a violence free poll later this year.
