BREAKING: Police block MDC Alliance march to demand poll reforms

By Staff Reporter

POLICE in Harare have barred an MDC Alliance march which had been planned for this Wednesday by the main opposition front to demand electoral reforms from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

In a written response to MDC-T secretary general Douglas Mwonzora on Tuesday, police said the MDC had already held two similar marches in succession recently to demand the same things and that police were hard-pressed for manpower to cover the busy electoral environment.

Home Affairs Minister Obert Mpofu said on Monday that the country’s security organs had been put on “high alert” following threats by MDC Alliance presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa to stop the holding of the July 30 election if ZEC did not heed their demands.
