The Government will go ahead in intensifying tighter lockdown restrictions mainly for Harare and Bulawayo.
Speaking during this weeks’ Cabinet Press Briefing, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Monica Mustvangwa said a stiffer lockdown is the next government’s step in curbing COVID-19 local transmission.
“The current lockdown restrictions will be tightened, while localised lockdowns are introduced in hotspot areas and further opening up of the economy is halted.”
According to the Government the move will also see a deferment to the commencement of schools nationwide. Testing of persons in localized areas will be in effected.
“The re-opening of schools shall be deferred pending a review of the situation, while the writing of public examinations continues.”
“Testing in communities with high cases of local transmission such as Bulawayo will be increased.”
Zimbabwe’s COVID-19 cases surpassed 1000 with number of deaths rising from 9 to 19 at pleasant. Harare and Bulawayo have highest number of local transmission.
