Chamisa ropes in top South African lawyers in poll challenge

By Staff Reporter

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has roped in top South African lawyers Dali Mpofu and Tembeka Ngcukaitobi to assist his legal team in his bid to overturn results of the July 30 presidential elections won by Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zanu PF.

The two renowned lawyers flew into the country this Friday morning.

Chamisa’s spokesperson Nkululeko Sibanda and South African media confirmed the development.

The 40-year-old losing presidential candidate in the just ended presidential elections is adamant he was robbed of victory by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission working in cahoots with Zanu PF.

ZEC and Zanu PF deny any foul play.

The matter has been set for hearing this coming Wednesday.

It is not the first time the opposition MDC has hired South African lawyers to assist them in local courts.

In 2004, founding MDC leader and now late Morgan Tsvangirai hired renowned lawyer George Bizos to assist in a matter in which he was being charged for treason. He was acquitted of the offence.
