Development Aid from People to People(DAPP) on Friday held a training program for Disabled Persons Organization (DPOs) on leadership and governance in Bindura’s Mashonaland Central Province.
The program comes amid the nongovernmental forum is in the process of implementing of United Nations Convention on Rights of Disabled Persons(UNCRPD) with the help of Leonard Cheshire Disability(LCD) and European Union(EU) as the funding partner.
The Friday’s engagement saw Disability Persons Organizations(DPO) and representatives from Bindura and Shamva under the facilitation of DAPP.
Speaking on the sidelines of the training programme, Esnath Guranai DAPP Programs Officer said the NGO Forum came up with the initiative to to strengthen Disabled Persons Organizations on various aspects of leadership and governance on disability issues. This is also intended to spearhead visibility of DPOs in the district.
“The Training Programme is aimed at strengthening Disabled Persons Organizations(DPOs) on leadership and governance issues and by doing so it increases their visibility in the district,” she said.
Guranai reiterated that the Training Programme was ideal in matters that pertains to awareness, rights, advocacy and information sharing on setting up Disabled Persons Organizations (DPOs).
“After empowering DPOs we expect them to have a deeper understanding on leadership and governance on disability issues. After helping them get ralavant knowledge on setting up a DPOs we also expect them to play an oversight role to uphold their mandate on awareness, advocacy on thier rights.”
