Deaf Vendors who attended the Vendors Initiative for Social and Economic Transformation (VISET) Stakeholder Workshop this Friday have expressed their disgruntlement at the way Municipal Police is handling them during course of duty.

Vote Moyo aged 35(yr) a disability vendor stood up during the VISET plenary discussion session and expressed his area of concern. As a vendor stationed along Kwame Nkruma Avenue alleges that the City Policy frequently pounces on them collecting bribes and their vending staff.

“I am living with disability, I can neither talk nor hear but i try to make a leaving out of vending. The municipal police always come to us on daily basis taking bribes and our staff. I don’t know how they expect us to earn a living?”

An approximate number of 50 Deaf Vendors attended the Stakeholder engagement.

VISET conducted a stakeholder workshop at a
time when the majority of players in the information sector are calling for the formalization of their profession.
