Gallant Warriors down DRC in AFCON qualifier

THE Zimbabwe Warriors showed great character to produce a shock 2-1 defeat of highly rated DRC in a thrilling Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played at the Stade De Matryrs in Kinshasa Saturday night.

Goals by left-back Ronald Pfumbidzai and skipper Knowledge Musona in either half of the match sealed a memorable show for Sunday Chidzambwa’s men, allowing them to consolidate their top spot on the four-team group.

Musona was red-carded in the twilight stages of the epic encounter but he had done his job by netting the all-important insurance goal.

DRC managed a face-saver in injury time but there was no more time left for them to find an equaliser.

The Warriors are now on the threshold of an early qualification for Afcon 2019 in Cameroon if they beat the same opponents at the National Sports Stadium this coming Tuesday.

They now top the group with seven points from 3 matches.
