Government has noted with great concern over the spreading of fake news and undesirable information being speculated on various media platforms in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
The call was made by the Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Aaron Nhepera through a statement issued on 25 January 2020.
“Government has noted with deep concern, recent developments where mainstream media, social media and individuals are spreading falsehoods on how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the nation’s leadership.”
Nhepera described the acts as unethical and unacceptable in a democratic society.
Speculations purporting sickness of senior government officials were awash in the corridors of social media platforms.
