Just in: ED not captured by Tagwirei, leaked audio reveals

By Loice Takarindwa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is not captured by business magnet Kudakwashe Tagwirei contrary to beliefs by opposition forces that the business tycoon always influences the Zimbabwe leader’s decisions.

A leaked audio between Tagwirei and Norton Member of Parliament Temba Mliswa has revealed that the President is his own man and does not always act according to the wishes of his advisors.

Tagwirei sits in the Presidential Advisory Council (PAC) focusing mainly on energy and fuel issues.
Government critics have maintained that Tagwirei, who has interests in mining, transport and agriculture, has captured the State.

But in the leaked audio Tagwirei reveals that President Mnangagwa runs government on his own despite taking advise from various people and sectors
Mnangagwa recently appointed former Zimbabwe Agricultural Society Chief executive officer Dr Anxious Masuka as the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement and Muzarabani legislator Soda Zhemu as Minister of Energy and Power Development.

Tagwirei also highlighted that there is need to assist a number of local business people for them to be successful.

“That is the reason why we need to push more Zimbabweans like Wicknell Chivayo through his (Gwanda solar) project. If there are exemptions of subsidies needed for the project, government should give that,” tagwirei said in the audio.
