A 20-YEAR-OLD Kwekwe man was slapped with $2400 fine by a Kwekwe magistrate for impregnating a 14 year old girl after she eloped to him before going back to her parents two years later after being physically abused.
Godknows Ncube was convicted of contravening section 70 of the criminal law codification and Reform Act chapter 9:23 before magistrate Story Rushambwa after full trial.
Failure to pay the fine would earn Ncube 6 months behind bars an additional 4 months was suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence in the next 5 years.
Prosecutor Freddy Ndoro told the court that sometime in 2017 Ncube proposed love to the minor and she accepted, on December 2017 the minor fell pregnant and eloped to Ncube’s house where they both stayed as husband and wife.
In July the minor returned back to her parents lamenting physical abuse by the convict, the parents then filed a police report leading to his arrest.
In mitigation Ncube pleaded for acquittal saying the complainant was his wife and the two should just go for counselling.
“Your worship this is just a domestic matter l am pleading with you to throw the case away since we are husband and wife instead you should direct us for counselling,” Ncube said.
