THE High Court in Bulawayo has reinstated Gweru Mayor Hamutendi Kombayi (pictured) who was fired together with Councillor Kenneth Sithole by Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere February this year.
Kombayi confirmed the development in an interview with the Zimbabwe Star on Wednesday.
“Yes, I have been reinstated,” he said before referring other questions to his lawyers.
Kombayi and Sithole were sacked on alleged gross misconduct, incompetence and mismanagement of council funds and affairs.
In his place, Kasukuwere appointed a commission to run the troubled city’s affairs.
His dismissal followed recommendations by an independent Tribunal that had been set up by the Minister to look into the alleged charges.
The MDC-T has alleged political victimisation on its officials deployed to councils.
