“Mbuya Nehanda statue will be structured in Harare’s Central Business District (CBD), it has much relevance on the history of the country. Ambuya Nehanda played a significant role during the Liberation War Struggle, she is the heroine of First Chimurenga.”
Mbuya Nehanda Charwei is said to be a descendent of Hwata-Mufakose Clan, used to reside at Shavarunzi in Mazowe.
The heroine went at loggerheads with foreign administration after staging a successful revolt in Mazowe, also known as Mashayamombe Rebellion.
Today, Nehanda and Hwata’s heads are lying in state at a museum in Britain after enduring painful deaths in the hands of white settlers.
