THE country’s Meteorological Services Department has warned of severe temperatures set to hit different parts of the country this Tuesday and Wednesday.
In a statement on Monday, the department urged citizens to ensure they are not exposed to direct sunlight for longer periods of the day as temperatures soar.
“The Meteorological Services Department wishes to advise the public of very hot weather to be expected on Tuesday 17 October 2017,” said the Met department.
“These near record-breaking high temperatures will be experienced throughout the whole country, with the low lying areas such as the Zambezi and Limpopo valleys forecast to go as high as 43 °C.”
The hot temperatures, according to authorities, shall persist into Wednesday.
“On Wednesday, 18 October 2017, Matabeleland North, all Mashonaland Provinces, north of the Midlands and Harare provinces should continue experiencing this hot weather.
“Matabeleland South, south of the Midlands, Manicaland and Masvingo Provinces should expect a decline in daytime temperatures due to the cloud cover anticipated to infiltrate the country from South Africa.
“The Department strongly advises against extended exposure to direct sunlight. As such the usual health related protection measures should be maximised.”
