Mukumbura men up for poaching

TWO Mukumbura men are in soup after they were caught in possession of a live pangolin and three pairs of ivory which they were selling in their village on Sunday.
The matter came to light at Mount Darwin magistrates courts yesterday where Desire Marunga (25) and Tedious Ruwizha (44) both fromChigano village ,Chief Chiswite in Mukumbura appeared before magistrate Rutendo Muchena and were remanded in custody to October 17.
Prosecutor Previous Ndowa alleged that on October 6 at Chigano village police details and anti-poaching squad teamed up and approached the suspects around 3 am after hearing that they were selling a live pangolin and ivory.
Marunga who was in possession of the pangolin negotiated for US$3 000 and was offered a trap money he brought the live pangolin which he kept in a sack; the pangolin was positively identified by the team before his arrest.
The team also proceeded to Ruwizha’s homestead and made searches; they found three pairs of elephant tasks and arrested him.
Meanwhile, Marunga has since applied for bail while Ruwizha is awaiting trial.
