Nyau leader fined for cutting colleagues’ finger

IN a bizarre incident a 27-year-old Bindura Nyau dance leader was yesterday fined $200 by a Bindura magistrate for cutting the finger his colleague whilst naked as part of their cult.

Patrick Bhalluku (27) of Zvakwana farm, Bindura was convicted after full trial by magistrate Tinashe Ndokera.

Prosecutor Vincent Marunya told the court that on October 13 at Zvakwana farm, Bindura Bhalluka was playing Nyau with Harison Harison of the same farm without putting on clothes.

Bhalluku pulled a knife and cut Harison’s finger after he refused to surrender a chicken which was supposed to be eaten raw on the day.

In his defence the convict said he did not stab his colleague but instead he was cut by a reed whilst playing Nyau.

“Your worship l did not cut my colleague with a knife but instead he was cut by a reed and now surprisingly there is this fabrication,” Bhalluku said.

The magistrate did not take his defence saying people should not take the law into their hands and should avoid playing with knives.

“There is overwhelming evidence that you did cut your colleague therefore l find you guilty as charged and your sentence should send a signal to other offenders that people should not take the law into their hands and above all avoid playing with knives,” said Ndokera
