Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says more than 1900 people have been arrested for defying lockdown. This follows the intensification of lockdown by the President in the quest to curb the COVID-19 pandemic.
Police Spokesperson Ass Commissioner Paul Nyathi conformed late last week.
“About 1 918 people across the country were arrested for various offences in defiance of the 21-day lockdown,” he reiterated.
The lockdown arrests were obliged to pay at least $200 and $500 local currency
Different offenses committed include ferrying passengers , public drinking, unsanctioned movements among others.
“Only yesterday 22 were arrested for liquor-related offences, 14 were nabbed for ferrying passengers without exemptions while 47 were arrested for operating businesses without exemptions. About 106 were arrested for unnecessary movement, 39 for gathering in public places and 179 for other offences,” he added.
