Police arrests Community Water Alliance -Finance Manager

Community Water Alliance Finance Manager, Patience Chisirimunhu was today in the Capital arrested by the police alleging that she had a fake letter.

Hardlife Mudzingwa CWA Programs Manager who caught up with Spotlight Online News Africa in a statement said the police arrested thier colleague who was on her way to carry out COVID-19 related duties.

“Community Water Alliance Finance Manager Patience Chisirimunhu was arrested by overzealous police officers whilst on her way to town to carry out duties during COVID-19.”

After meeting the law enforcers she produced a letter issued by City of Harare allowing Chisirimunhu to help fundraise sanitizers to be used at public water points. The police however rejected the letter alleging it to be fake leading to her arrest.

“She produced a letter written by City of Harare which allows our staff to help fundraise for sanitizers at public water points. The police are claiming that the letter is fake. Charges preferred against Patience are not clear at the moment.”

Community Water Alliance condemned the arrest of their staff member which they described as barbaric to arrest an official who is helping to improve access of water, an essential service of the community.

“Community Water Alliance strongly condemn barbaric actions by ZRP to harass officials who are helping improving access to water as an essential service during the lock down.”

Spotlight Online News Africa contacted Police Spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi who said was still to confirm as the case had not been brought to his attention.

“The case has not been brought to my attention. You can check with me tomorrow.”

Community Water Alliance have since engaged Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).
