Shamva DDC hails DAPP programmes on Disability

Shamva’s District Development Coordinator(DDC) White Nkoma has applauded Development Aid from People to People(DAPP) for rolling out empowerment programmes to ensure rights of persons with disabilities.

In an interview with Spotlight Online News Africa last week, Nkoma said DAPP has engaged persons with disabilities and their organization in Shamva which spearheaded to disability inclusion.

“We have observed a number of Programs on disability in Shamva. Most of the program are a stepping stone in ensuring disability rights in the community.Disability mainstreaming and inclusion is now on another level,” he said.

According to Nkoma disability programmes has also assisted government itself to now prioritize Disability inclusion in many areas of life. Gave an example of a local councilor living with disability who has become more involved in disability activities and donations.

“After engaging with DAPP us office bearer’s and as the Government we are now appreciating and prioritizing disability issues in our area of work. For example we have a a local councilor Nevson Zvizhinji from Chaminuka Rural District Council, himself lives with disability but is now actively involved in disability activities where at times donates huge toward Persons with disability,” he added.

This follows implementation of a programme on Young Persons With Disabilities (YPWDs) by DAPP in partnership with Leonard Cheshire Disability(LCD) and European Union (EU). The main thrust is to scale-up disability mainstreaming and and advocacy.
