Sungura Legend Macheso honors former school

Sungara icon Alick Macheso made a social responsibility as he successfully championed the construction of an Early Childhood Development Block (ECD) at Enterprise Primary, his former school in Shamva.

The colorful handover ceremony on Wednesday in the presence of Macheso himself and partners consisting of EMH, Rachicco Contractors, RedCross among others.

Speaking at the momentous occasion Macheso said he and partners assumed the corporate social responsibility in ploughing back to the community in a bid to uplift standards of education in the rural areas.

“I feel honored to officiate the official handover of the ECD Block which is a testimony of how we value the education of learners in rural areas. I am what I am today because of this school.”

The successful musician narrated his journey from his rural background where he rose to fame in a humble background. The talented musician encouraged parents to support children with interest to venture into music carrier.

“We continue to come back here because this is where we came from. Today I am someone known all over the world, I have traveled a lot to many countries through music. At first people thought music was a useless professional but today I am now recognized by many people, I continue to encourage all parents to support their children with interest to venture into music carrier.”

Andrew Mushai Shamva’s District Schools Inspector applauded Macheso for the great initiative as he said the move is in line with the current educational curriculum which has the provisions of Visual and Performing Arts.

“Macheso has done a wonderful initiative to this school and this is inline with our education curriculum which allows children to learn Visual and Performing Arts.

Wellington Chikoore Managing Director Rachicco Contractors, Macheso’s partner said his company is committed to continue working with the fellow musician and other organization in providing construction services in the rural areas.

“As a construction company we are committed to work with Alick Macheso in providing construction services to the marginalized schools in rural areas and we have the capacity.”

Alick Macheso is the first sungura musician to construct a school block at a former school in rural area after the late Oliver Mutukudzi.

Apart from this, the musician is also catering for the school fees and other related expenses for an approximate 109 pupils at the school.

The atmosphere of entertainment engulfed revellers with great performances coming from Alick Macheso’s Orchestra Mberi Kwazvo, Freeman HKD Boss, Simon Mutambi and Cobra Kings, Selmor Mtukudzi and Progress Chipfumo.
