Zimbabwe to host inaugural medical professionals awards

Zimbabwe will be holding first ever Medical Professionals Awards this Saturday at the Rainbow Tours in the Capital. The colorful awards ceremony is being organized by Zimbabwe Medical Awards Trust.

The high profile event which will bring together medical professionals across the divide will be the first of its kind in the country and is set to honor Zimbabwe’s own medical pioneers.

In an Interview with Zimbabwe Medical Awards Trust Chairperson and Founder, Dr. Josephat Chiripanyanga said the event will be a reflection to honor the medical pioneers in the country. This will also take a centre stage in recognizing professionals in the medical field.

“We realized that other countries are recognizing their medical professionals and we decided to do the same with regards to our own local professionals. Other professions the likes of journalists and footballers are being acknowledged in the form of awards and we have seen it fit to also recognize our own practitioners.”

He also thanked the government for giving the medical practitioners a green light to conduct the award ceremonies which will be graced by the presence of the Permanent Secretary for Health and Child Care Air Commodore Dr Jasper Chimedza .

“We would like to thank our Government for giving us the greenlight to hold the awards and these will be officiated by our Permanent Secretary for Health and Child Care Air Commodore Dr Jasper Chimedza,” he added.

The awards will honor professionals in the categories of first medical doctor, first nurse, first surgeon, and first pharmacist and among others. Medical professionals who passed away before the time of awards will also be honored.

The awards comes at a time when the medical field is grappling myriad challenges mainly attributed to the current COVID-19 pandemic
